The Afghanistan Women Foundation (AWF) is a federally registered non-profit organization founded in 2023 in Canada. Guided by the vision of “Initiating meaningful change through the strategic engagement of women,” AWF is dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering Afghan women and girls. Through targeted awareness campaigns, accountability and monitoring, and strategic advocacy, we strive to address critical challenges, amplify Afghan women’s voices, and foster sustainable change. AWF collaborates with local and international partners to create opportunities for Afghan women to participate meaningfully in social and political development, ensuring their rights are protected and their contributions recognized.
Our Vision
A future where Afghan women and girls live with dignity, equality, and freedom, leading their communities as empowered agents of change in a society that values diversity, justice, and human rights for all.
Our Mission
To advance the rights of Afghan women and girls by promoting gender equality through strategic awareness campaigns, accountability monitoring, and advocacy initiatives. AWF is committed to fostering a sustainable and inclusive environment where women’s voices are amplified, their challenges addressed, and their rights protected.
Our Goal
To create a society where Afghan women and girls are empowered to participate meaningfully in all aspects of life. We aim to advance women’s rights, foster meaningful engagement, and provide access to opportunities that enable them to live with dignity, respect, and freedom.
What We Do
The Afghanistan Women Foundation focus on three key initiatives:
Awareness: The Beginning of Change, which raises awareness on women’s rights, mental health, and educational opportunities;
Voices for Resilience, amplifying Afghan women’s voices and advocating for policy reforms; and
Holding the Taliban Accountable: Defending Women’s Rights, dedicated to monitoring and holding the Taliban accountable for the restrictions and policies that violate the rights and freedoms of Afghan women and girls. Through these projects, we aim to promote justice, defend rights, and create lasting change for women in Afghanistan
Our Values
Empowerment through Equity and Advocacy
At the heart of the Afghanistan Women Foundation (AWF) lies a steadfast commitment to Empowerment through Equity and Advocacy. This value encapsulates the essence of our work and guides our initiatives to support Afghan women and girls in achieving their full potential.
Empowerment
We strive to empower Afghan women and girls to lead lives filled with dignity, freedom, and purpose. By creating opportunities for personal growth, education, and leadership, AWF aims to cultivate confidence and resilience in the face of challenges.
Equity
AWF is dedicated to fostering gender equality and addressing systemic disparities that hinder Afghan women’s access to opportunities and rights. We believe that a just society values diversity and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone has an equal chance to succeed.
Advocacy
Amplifying the voices of Afghan women is central to our mission. Through targeted campaigns and initiatives, AWF holds entities accountable for policies and actions that undermine women’s rights and freedoms. We work tirelessly to ensure justice, equity, and meaningful change.
This guiding value, Empowerment through Equity and Advocacy, inspires our work and underscores our commitment to building a future where Afghan women and girls thrive as leaders and change-makers in their communities.
