In Honor of March!
Since the Taliban’s second takeover, their oppressive policies—enforced through decrees and the so-called “Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” law—have systematically aimed to degrade and confine women to their homes. However, what the regime’s theorists likely did not anticipate was that their quest for legitimacy would be shattered by the very women they sought to silence. Afghan women took to the streets, leading social uprisings amid violence and repression, paying a heavy price for their resistance.
The response of Afghan society to the systematic and strategic violence against women has etched a historic moment into our collective memory. But one question remains: Did men stand alongside women in a struggle that was never just a “women’s issue”? What is the social responsibility of men in ensuring women’s presence and participation in society?
The Afghanistan Women Foundation will explore this critical issue in a conversation with Bardia Moein, a distinguished writer and researcher (M.A. in Political Sociology).
