Artwork and poem by a young girl from Kabul, dedicated to the girls of Herat

A Message of Solidarity from Kabul to Herat

This drawing and poem were created by a young girl from Kabul as a heartfelt message to the girls of Herat following the tragic events that affected them several weeks ago.

Through art and poetry, she expresses compassion, grief, and hope, reminding us that violence can never silence the dignity, resilience, and dreams of Afghanistan’s girls.

The Afghanistan Women’s Foundation is honored to share this artwork as a symbol of solidarity, resilience, and hope for a brighter future.

“Herat did not accept oppression; she stood tall.

An angel stood trembling in a corner.
Yet, with her veil, she spread the wings of flight.
She fell upon the earth, and the world grew dark.
She sought justice for herself.
But a leaden bullet descended into her chest.
Our hearts, too, were torn apart.
When we saw her graceful stature fallen upon the ground.
O my graceful and courageous daughter of Herat,
Your name shall never fade from the memory of history.
This dark cloud that has cast its shadow
Will one day pass, and tyranny shall remain no more.”
